Abstract

Contrary to Chater’s opinion in the Flora Europaea (2 :323, 1968) the authors classify the taxon Eryngium wiegandii Adamovic as a separate species, well distinguished from the species E. palmatum. Pancic and Visiani by constant morphological differences in the habitus, size and especially the shape and incisiveness of ground leaves and tree leaves (Figs. 1, 2).
E. wiegandii is an endemic, whose area is strictly confined to central and southern Macedonia and Thessaly. Two new localities have now been added to those known earlier: they are in the river basin of the Treska (Kozjak near Nova Breznica and Barbaros near Makedonski Brod).
