Abstract

This paper presents the results of analyses of the life form and floral elements in the flora of Baranja (723 species of vascular plants). The flora was investigated in the period 1986—1988. In the vegetation of the forests, lawns, quarries, meadows, swamps, waters, ruderal and weed vegetation, stands of 1 m2 have been recorded, by the method of accidental square, according to the Zurich—Montpelliere school principles.
An analysis of the life form shows the greatest share of hemi- cryptophyta (36.09%), which indicates that the area of Baranja belongs to the Middle European area, pointing at the resistance to winter cold. Considerable share of therophyta indicates the aridity of the area and great share of weed vegetation.
The majority of plants belong to the Euroasian floral element (30.98%) and Middle European floral element (20.88%), which coincide with the continental climate of Baranja, followed by plants of the Sub- pontic floral element.
