Abstract

The halophytic vegetation of the class Crithmo-Limonietea (order Crithmo-Limonietalia and alliance Crithmo-Limonion) on coastal cliffs along the Croatian Littoral is represented by three associations, endemic on the eastern Adriatic shore:
— Plantagini-Limonietum cancellati Horvatić (1934) 1939 subass. limonietosum cancellati
subass. schoenetosum Pavletić, subass. nov. non Plantagini-Staticetum cancellatae subass. schoenetosum nigricantis Horvatić 1963, quod Limonietum anfracti subass. schoenetosum nigricantis (Horvatić 1963) Ilijanić et S. Hećimović 1982. est.
— Limonietum-anfracti Ilijanić & S. Hećimović 1982 subass. limonietosum anfracti
subass. schoenetosum nigricantis (Horvatić 1963) Ilijanić & S. Hećimović 1982 (— Plantagini-Staticetum cancellatae subass. schoenetosum nigricantis Horvatić 1963) subass. lavateretosum arboreae Ilijanić & S. Hećimović 1982
— Crithmo-Limonietum vestiti Trinajstić (1981 nom. nud.) 1989 (in Zi. Pavletić 1989).
The endemic species Limonium cancellatum, L. anfractum and L. vestitum are typical inhabitants of the coastal cliffs and the characteristic species of the above mentioned associations.
Each of the said communities is characterized by typical floristic composition (Tab. 1, 2, 3) and by its distinctly separated areas (Fig. 1).
