Contribution to the Knowledge of the Spreading of the Taxon Reynoutria japonica Houtt. (Polygonaceae) in Croatia

Abstract
The most recent research into the spreading of the species Reynoutria japonica in the territory of the Republic of Croatia has shown that it frequently escapes cultivation and continues to develop by itself, independently of human action (ergasiophygophyt), (comp. Trinajstić 1975). In the last few years this species began to spread rapidly in the basins of the rivers Sava and Drava where it is conquering ever larger surfaces. We have tried to connect this with changes of conditions in its habitat caused by acid rains.
All new habitats are shown in Table 1 in the direction West-East and the present state of spreading of the species R. japonica is given in Fig. 1. A total of 84 new sites were discovered in addition to 22 known earlier (comp. Trinajstić et al. 1991).
