Abstract

Two check groups, 1 and 2, of Holstein Friesian bull calves were fed intensively and ad libitum, following the method for baby beef fattening. In 60 and 90 days of early fattening, bull calves from experimental groups 1 and 2 were fed rations containing 80% of energy offered during intensive fattening, and then over 150 and 120 days they were fed intensively and at will. During the 150 days of intensive fattening, bulls calves from the experimental group 1, in comparison with the bull calves from check group 1 achieved siqnificantlv higher daily gain by 0,182 kg (P<0,01) and 0,072 kg (P>0,05) throughout the entire fattening period. During the 120 days of intensive fattening bull calves from the experimental group 2, in comparison with the bull calves from check group 2 achieved significantly higher daily gain by 0.222 kg (P<0.01) and equal daily gain throughout the entire fattening period, which indicates more poorely expressed compensatory gain (lCG = 1.11) relative to the bull calves restricted in feed intake during the shorter period of early fattening, whose compensatory gain was more pronounced (ICC = 2.19). Owning to the more intensive compensatory growth, bull calves restricted in feed intake over a shorter period (60 days) in early fattening expressed better net energy utilization of the feed in the period. of intensive fattening (by 14.9% in experiment 1 against 13.9% in experiment 2), and in the whole fattening period (by 10.2% against 5.3%), as well as smaller intake of concentrates per kg of gain during the entire fattening period (by 0,99% kg in experiment 1 against 0,47 kg in experiment 2) in comparison with the bull calves longer restricted in feed intake.
