Abstract

The rapid development of industrialization allowed the widespread use of polymeric materials but without understanding the consequences of the accumulation of plastic waste in landfills. The waste polymeric materials are a major problem in environmental protection, all the more burdensome for the environment and it is important to know the ways to approach the problem, classification of polymer materials as well as formation process of polymeric waste. In this paper, an analysis of disposal methods of poly(ethylene terephthalate), PET, in the company „Drava International” d.o.o. in Osijek was carried out. This company is primarily engaged in recycling and recovery of waste foil, waste PE films and waste PET bottles. The process of recycling involves processing and recycling of waste packaging to give a granular material from which further processes of production result in a new finished product, depending on market needs.
