Abstract

In recent years various studies have been conducted that indicate the great potential of postharvest residues processing for energy production. Thanks to the new technologies postharvest residues can be utilized in many different ways to obtain heat and electricity and also liquid or gaseous fuels. One of the most important forms of conversion of residues for energy production is pyrolysis. The objective of this study was to provide information on combustion and pyrolysis of cereal straw (wheat straw, barley straw, oat straw, triticale straw). Research has shown that the final products after pyrolysis of cereals straw, biochar and bio-oil, can be used as feedstock for energy production (directly or as a feedstock in the co-incineration), while biochar can be used as soil enhancer.
