Abstract

The objective of investigations carried out during the 2002-2004 years on experimental field of the Faculty of Agriculture was to determine the optimal seeding date and plant density for four grain amaranth cultivars. Research included four amaranth cultivars belonging to different Amaranthus species: G6 (Amaranthus cruentus L.), Plainsman and 1008 (Amaranthus hypochondriacus L.) and Koniz (A. hypochondriacus L. x A. hybridus L.). Investigated cultivars were sown in two seeding dates (first and second decade of May) and in three plant densities: 40, 80 and 120 plants m-2 in harvest. Cultivars Plainsman and 1008 obtained the highest seed yield. Higher seed yield was obtained at 80 plants/m2. Higher seed yield was determined in first decade of May. Cultivar Koniz obtained the highest protein content in seed.
