Abstract

Thanks to diverse climatic and soil conditions as a long tradition in vegetable growing in Republic of Croatia numerous a valuable eco populations and domestic vegetable varieties was created. Due to technological development in vegetable production, introduction of foreign hybrid varieties and degradation of domestic vegetable seed production lot of Croatian vegetable gene fond was permanently lost and a many is in endanger for it.
In aim to preserve vegetable plant genetic resources, Vegetable working group of Commission for plant genetic resources preserving started with activities on making of National program for plant genetic resources in agriculture. Inventarisation of existing collections and establishing of priority for preserving was made the first. Vegetable working group is active on several SEEDNet regional project supported by Swedish agency for international development. Some activities are described in this article.
