Accumulation of cadmium and mercury in edible saprotrophic and ectomycorrizal mushrooms

Abstract
The aim of this research was to determine concentration of cadmium and mercury in 10 species of edible mushrooms and substrate from Zumberak area. Also, the aim of this research was to determine bioaccumulation potential of analysed species of mushrooms. The analyses of heavy metals were carried out by met- hod of inductively coupled plasma-atomic emission spectrometry (ICP-OES; Optima 8000, Perkin Elemer, SAD). The highest concentration of cadmium (1.83 mg kg-1) was determined in Agaricus campestris, while the highest concentration od mercury (1.32 mg kg-1) was determined in Boletus edulis. Significantly higher (p<0.05) concentrations of heavy metals were determined in caps rather than stipes in all analyzed mushrooms. Bioconcentration factor for cadmium and mercury was greater than 1 in all analyzed mushrooms. Analyzed saprophytic species of mushrooms had accumulated higher concentration of analyzed heavy metals compared to symbiotic, excluding genus Boletus, which had shown as the best mercury accumulators. Comparing concentrations of cadmium and mercury in mushrooms with prescribed law orders it can be concluded that consumption of same does not have negative benefits on human health.
