Abstract

Considering the somewhat neglected study of the works by Mihailo Lalić, especially from the linguistic and stylistic point of view, along with a huge quantitative disproportion of analyses in the field of literature from the linguistic point of view, we decided to approach the syntactic-semantic and stylistic analysis of aspects of the literary text on the plane of discourse in order to illuminate many details important for a consideration of the total, even ideological point of view of this writer. This approach, also, requires the selection of one of the genres in which Mihailo Lalić has always been distinctive – his novels, and for that particular reason we have decided to analyze their titles along with a significantly deeper semantic thread that connects them.
Starting from the standpoint according to which the title can be understood as a text on the text, its summary and the launching point, the fundamental question that arises in the analysis provided by this essay is – to what extent titles can express self-reference or artificiality of the text, and in what way it may become a central metaphor (Svadba), a leitmotif (Raskid, Ratna sreća), or a symbol (Lelejska gora and Tamara), and to what extent their multilayered meanings refer to a formation of a valid point of view.

Keywords
