Abstract

Leadership is a complex process. Management and leadership represent basic management functions that are implemented through four groups of tasks: planning, organization, management and evaluation. The quality of the school becomes dependent on the principal, his ability to organize school work (management), his professional pedagogical leadership, and his personality traits. Thus, the principal is responsible for the development of a pleasant school atmosphere of interpersonal relationships. In order to successfully accomplish managerial functions in the administrative and pedagogical field of the school, the principal must have appropriate competences. Leadership, school climate, organizational efficiency and job satisfaction are important constructs of effective leadership in Croatian primary schools. The purpose of this paper is to emphasize the importance of educational management, and in particular the influence of leadership styles on quality of pedagogical management of schools.
