Abstract

Plastic gears are getting ever more important in mechanical engineering and are becoming an alternative to metal gears in many applications. They are increasingly used not only for transmitting motion but power as well. The field of their application is constantly spreading. There is significant progress in reverse engineering, especially in situations when the existing parts can be traced in some of the CAD system and send to 3D print. Unlike metal materials, whose
development is slowing down, thanks to the favorable mechanical properties of polymers, plastic materials are constantly improving. Due to their continuing advancement, they are becoming more desirable in gear trains.
