Abstract
Neuromuscular disorders (NMD) include disorders
of the peripheral neuromuscular system whose main and
common feature is the loss of strength together with muscle
hypotrophy and the reduction of function of body structures,
activitiy and participation. Muscular dystrophy describes
a highly heterogeneous group of hereditary and progressive
NMDs. Still insufficiently investigated, the complex
phenotypic and genotypic correlation of muscular dystrophy
does not provide reliable diagnostic data and therefore therapeutic
guidelines. The presentation of the case of the patient
highlights the specific aspect of the physiotherapy program
within all the challenges related to the diagnosis and overall
rehabilitation. The presentation covers the analysis of data
obtained by applying the physiotherapeutic assessment of
the SOAP model. The functional status of the patient is
objectively defined by manual muscular test, Vignos and
Brooke functional classifications. The results of the data
analysis are correlated with current clinical research and
indicate that targeted therapeutic exercises can improve
the muscle function and functional ability of the patients
provided they are performed individually, strictly dosed
and with continuous evaluation. The principles of long-term
control of the disease point out the maintenance of muscle
strength, mobility and functional independence as much
as possible by increasing the quality of life. The anticipation,
prevention and management of comorbidities, those
expected as well as those acquired, are the main principles
of working within a comprehensive treatment. Interdisciplinarity
represents a postulate in neuromuscular disease rehabilitation where a highly motivated team, with a patient
as a proactive participant and parents, plays the key role in
the realization of therapeutic goals.
