Abstract

The stone from the island of Brač used in construction of buildings and facilities often shows signs of a faster degradation, i.e. reduced durability. It has been known to happen that in the same location and conditions the stones from the same deposits of a newer date look older than the ones used in construction decades, even centuries earlier.
Comments can be often heard, especially by the end users, that stone of Brač, despite its decoration and beauty, is not acceptable for certain purposes because its degradation occurs very quickly.
Very few people take into consideration the human factor, or even better, the factor of modern, accelerated way of life. Usually everyone blames the material. The purpose of this paper is to show that stone needs to be understood and treated the proper way.

Keywords
