Abstract

Prior to its restoration, the bell tower of the Cathedral in Split was
a genuine showcase of stone monuments, with a large number of
pillars, capitals and inscriptions, and one relief, from Classical and
Late Antiquity. There were symbolic reasons for the installation of
spolia, as evidence of the antiquity and renown of the City of Split
which, particularly in the clerical sense, is deemed the successor
to Salona.
