Abstract

The investigation of relationship between some anthropometric measures and achievement in classic karate for expert karatists of absolute category was carried out on a sample of 55 karatists who had participated in the official championship of Croatia. The "achievement" variable was formed on the basis of results in several seasonal competitions, while their morphological characteristics were established by means of 13 anthropometric measures taken after the method of International Biological Program.
By application of classic regression analysis, a high and significant correlation was established between anthropometric variables and achievement in karate (.82), while height and chest dimensions were best predictors of the achievement in manifest space. There exist two latent dimensions in the latent anthropometric space: eurymorphy and fat tissue. Their correlation with the criterion variable of "achievement" is also very high (.72). Practically, only the first variable is responsible for this correlation.
