Abstract

The spectrum of constants of Ukrainian literary production during the Independence period, among the tactics of figurative organization of works, is dominated by various types and forms, interesting due to their semantic effects. These options include analogy, especially terms of the establishment of axiological meanings. Particular attention is drawn to the semantic power in the prose reproduction of images of cities, notably Venice. Yuriy Andrukhovych’s experience in the novel Perversion is significant in that respect. The artistic integration of meanings into the wholeness of Venetian semantic field highlights the Italian city as a combination of antiquity and modernity in the context of philosophical and ethical guidelines. This allows us to express in the semantic code of Venice the “moment of truth”, its expected “quotation” imprint, which outlines the humanistic synthesis of goodness and harmony as cultural universals and landmarks in the infinite cognition of truth.
