Abstract

In 2020, Zagreb was struck by a series of earthquakes that caused significant damage to Zagreb upper town and lower town blocks. The most significant damage was inflicted to non-structural elements, and this article discusses with methods of remediation attic and gable walls. During the designing process of the beginning of the 20th century the effects of earthquakes were not sufficiently known, and adequate structural systems for construction in seismically active areas were not applied. This article presents the remediation of the attic wall on the building located on Pierottijeva street 11 and the gable wall of the building located on Nazorova street 2, which are characteristic examples of construction of that time. These examples give designers an overview of potential problems that may be encountered during the preparation of project documentation, with proposed solutions and an overview of the characteristic details applied during the remediation.
