Abstract

In this article, I intend to present how a psychotherapist as a professional observes and
understands a patient’s story (in this case presented as a humorous story) and contemplates
the strengths of the patient’s ego, his defence mechanisms, capability to form a relationship
or the patient’s capacity for mentalization. She considers which elements caused the psychotherapeutic
process to last for 11 years.

Keywords

patient’s story; ego; defence mechanisms; attachment; mentalization
