Abstract

The problem of elimination consists of computation of the values of a linear form c1x1 + c2x2 + … + cnxn where c1, c2, …, cn are given numbers and x1, x2, …, xn is the solution of a linear system of equations. The paper explains the problem of elimination from the theoretical point of view. The application of the method of elimination is especially suitable in computer-aided least squares adjustments. The paper shows that only one program command in a triple loop enables not only the estimation of unknown parameters and errors of observations, but also their covariance matrices (up to the variance factor).
