Abstract
The aim of this review article is to determine whether the quality of doctor-patient communication and the patient’s health literacy have a significant difference in the health outcomes of patient treatment. There is a clear assumption in the literature that low health literacy and inadequate communication between patients and health professionals leads to inappropriate use of health care, with subsequent worse disease outcomes. Most of the studies reviewed showed a correlation between effective physician-patient communication and improved patient health outcomes Therefore, physicians have a duty to inform patients about how to achieve health and well-being, and patients have the potential to influence the patient-physician relationship to their mutual benefit with the goal of improving health care outcomes.
