Abstract
Introduction: Nursing is different from other fields of education because it combines classical lectures and exercises. The choice of the teaching method depends on the goal of the teaching process, the complexity of the content, the prior knowledge of the students and the teacher's qualifications. Choosing the optimal method is an important task for the teacher because he is not only a transmitter of knowledge but also a mentor. The aim of this paper is to show the importance of implementing innovative learning and teaching methods in the educational system of nurses and technicians at the secondary and higher education levels.
Methods: The basis of the work refers to a concise presentation of innovative learning and teaching methods in nursing with an emphasis on the development of competencies highlighted by the European Parliament and the National Qualification Standard. Professional literature from the field of upbringing and education, as well as biomedicine and healthcare, including available professional curricula, was used and analyzed.
Results: Modern forms of innovative teaching methods are constantly developing in the direction of joint cooperation between students and teachers, where the teacher assumes the role of a mentor and enables students to be guided through active participation in certain activities to achieve the necessary learning outcomes and acquire competencies. Traditional teaching methods will not completely disappear from the teaching curriculum in nursing, but there will be a combination of modern and traditional teaching methods, as was the case with the pandemic.
Conclusion: By educating future generations of students, it is important to make them aware that the profession of a nurse includes the acquisition of various specific skills. Innovative methods make it possible to strengthen the competence of future nurses and technicians on the labor market and, finally, to develop and improve the quality of nursing care.
