Abstract

The growing trend of cycle tourism shows one of the most promising specific forms in the development of destinations with regard to the trend of expansion of tourist consumption. Integration and participation of all participants is necessary in creating the development of cycle tourism of a destination. It is necessary to include certain areas in development such as environmental protection, sustainable development, marketing, legal regulation and many others, which requires a multidisciplinary approach to destination development. Legislation that is appropriate, useful and at the same time high-quality provides efficient coordination of all activities and facilitates entrepreneurial activities in the field of cycle tourism. The aim of this paper is to establish the usefulness of legal regulations for the growth of cycle tourism through a comparison of the current legal regulations of the Republic of Croatia and the concept of European Union countries with developed cycle tourism. Destinations are increasingly attracting organized bicycle tours, where it is extremely important to harmonize the legal regulations that are currently related to road safety with the regulations of the European Union, in order to avoid conflicts and reduce the negative aspects of development. The evaluation carried out indicates that in the Republic of Croatia in the field of cycle tourism, the smallest and insignificant legal regulations have been established, but also that the share of cycle tourism in the GDP would have a higher effect and result on the growth of the Croatian economy, the responsibility rests with the entities that have cycle tourism in their area of interest, tourism and additional efforts are needed to force the legislator to implement an effective and less repressive regulatory framework.
