Abstract

The article presents three types of translation according to R. Jakobson: intralingual, interlingual and intersemiotic translations based on the examples from Ukrainian literature: the fairy tale Ivasyk Telesyk and the short story The Kaidash Family by Ivan Nechuy-Levytsky. The Ukrainian folk tale Ivasyk Telesyk is also viewed from the point of view of functions in fairy tales. The translations pertinent to each of the works are considered. As for Ivasyk Telesyk, the intersemiotic translation is applied, i.e., transposition as a cartoon in Ukrainian, the interlinguistic translation of the text into Croatian and then its transmutation into music. As for the Kaidash Family, the intralingual translation (modernisation) used as the screenplay of the TV series To Catch the Kaidash and the TV series itself (its transmutation) are analysed.
