Abstract

The article analyses theatre performances Damn Her (2021) and Child of Our Time (2019) which were co-authored by the director Helena Petković, dramaturg Ivana Vuković with the two respective male and female ensembles and produced by Split independent theatre PlayDrama. Projects critically approach social, linguistic and theatre heritage of the city of Split and explore male and female roles which are available in that problematised surrounding. In order to obtain that aim the authors rely on popular performative practices of environmental theatre as well as theatre which uses local dialect and affirms local mentality. However, local theatre heritage to which they refer is twisted, parodied and questioned not only with the aim of achieving comedic stage effect, but also potential future social change.
