Abstract

The management of the state-owned agricultural land in the area of the LAG Posavina is crucial for a sustainable development of total agricultural production and the improvement of rural communities of that area. Public tenders for the lease of agricultural land are the implementation mechanisms for the ensurance of a transparent distribution of resources, but they often encounter numerous barriers and challenges. This article analyzes the structure of tender-allocated land parcels by size , investigating how some parcels were successfully allocated while the others remained unallocated. The causes and consequences of such a distribution are discussed, and proposals are made to encourage a long-term lease of parcels for which there is no demand. Also, a necessity of clearer rules and better institutional support is emphasized in order to increase the efficiency of management of this important resource. By improving the tender procedures and strengthening the local institutions’ capacity , a significant contribution can be made to a sustainable development of rural areas.
