Abstract

Never before in history have there been so many opportunities for the representation of the content on faith in the media and on social networks. With the increasing influence of social networks, religious communities have been undergoing numerous challenges, and consequently, due to easier access to the audience, and because of the evident role of social networks, there has been an evident increase in the content about individualized experiences of faith, while the characteristics of the reporting on the church and religion are no more the ultimate source of information for believers. At the same time, they are exposed to changes with respect to the new formats and genres, and the new possibilities that social networks bring primarily through an increase in the number and role of influencers. In this context, the formation and media literacy of adult believers, who ought to have the skills to identify credible and authentic content, have been becoming increasingly important. Adult formation, as a specific form of pastoral action, with the help of the media and social networks, is a fundamental challenge that urges coordinated approach of all identified actors, from the level of parish to diocese, given the great and even more evident potential of evangelization.
