Abstract

The aim of this paper is to show how physical activity positively affects the health status and quality of life of children with developmental disabilities. Numerous positive effects are known that are generated by regular physical activity, for the realization of which there are recommendations related to its minimum duration, form and intensity. Children with developmental disabilities follow recommendations for physical activity that are valid for the general population of the same age, with adaptation of their opportunities to disabilities and health and functional status. Based on the reviewed literature, it can be concluded that for them, regular and adapted physical activity has multiple benefits, ranging from the preservation and enhancement of motor and functional abilities, to the reduction of the risk of chronic diseases, as well as improvements in psychological well-being and social inclusion.
