Gavardo and Maier: Two Rebel Souls

Abstract
The present essay aims to provide a historical-cultural presentation
of the connection between the (auto)biographical works of Tino Gavardo
and Bruno Maier, which have been rarely studied until the present
moment, and their connection to their hometown, Koper. Bruno Maier,
basing himself on literary, historical and theoretical works and criticism,
has proven to be an excellent expert on Gavardo’s poetry when providing
an overview of the poems in the Koper vernacular, which were collected
under the title Fora del semenà. The article highlights the political, cultural,
sociological and literary factors that influenced Gavardo’s dialect poetry.
Through the interpretation of Gavardo’s poems, Maier’s autobiographical
story Case a Capodistria is also researched.
