Abstract

Storytelling exists since the emergence of humanity and has evolved from a means of transmitting information crucial to the survival of a tribe into an artform that requires detailed preparation and continuous improvement. Regardless of time and form, storytelling has always been a means of transmitting and spreading knowledge, experience and stories to a wider audience that can benefit from it in some way, whether for entertainment or (and) education, information, but comfort or warning as well. Storytelling has retained this function to this day and regardless of the progress of technology and the hyperproduction of information, there is always an audience for a good story. The paper provides an overview of storytelling, its characteristics and elements, focusing on storytelling as an oral performance. It also offers several suggestions for storytelling library programs, presented through examples of the „Nikola Zrinski” Čakovec Library programs.
