Abstract

The prevailing working method in Croatian schools today is 'teach-testgrade',
where the grade is taken to be one of the main indicators of a pupil's success.
The school is expected to teach pupils how to learn and prepare them for life-long
learning. This fact, as well as the fact that in the school where we conducted research
there are many teachers with limited work experience, or complete beginners who have
not yet taken the state accreditation exam, indicated the need to evaluate the teachers'
knowledge and attitude to grading. The research shows that their attitude and
knowledge are limited, and that they need to acquire new findings in the field of school
docimology.
