Abstract

SUMMARY: The paper deals with risks of electromotor implementation in spaces endangered by a flammable atmosphere. The central part of this paper analyzes the probability of formation of combustion agents due to asynchronous engine cage damage in such spaces. The investigation of combustion agent effectiveness, in conditions where flammable media were present, was conducted on an electromotor belonging to the “Increased Safety Ex e” anti-explosion protection type, whose power equals 47 kW and whose nominal input voltage equals 380 V. Different levels of asynchronous engine cage damage were tested in an explosive atmosphere created by flammable gasses. The reliability of “ON-LINE” methods for technical diagnostics of the condition of the electromotor, used to detect damages in the engine cage which could cause combustion of explosive compounds, was tested separately.
