Abstract
Sixty male lambs were used to study the effect of antibiotic growth promoter (Flavomycin) and mannan oligosaccharides (MOS) on production and fecal flora during fattening period. The ration was based on hay and concentrate mixture containing corn (53.5%), soybean meal (17.0%), barley (14.5%) bran (6%) and alfalfa meal (4%). Lambs were fed a 15% protein concentrate mixture containing antibiotic (5.0 mg/kg flavomycin), MOS (4 g/kg of Bio-Mos), or no additive (control) for 60 days. Addition of MOS or antibiotic growth promoter significantly influenced fecal microflora, but this difference did not result in other differences during the experimental period. No treatment differences in growth measures or carcass characteristics were detected during the trial. The results suggest that neither MOS nor antibiotic growth promoter can improve the production results of lamb during fattening after weaning.
