Abstract
Basketball is a very complex and dynamic sport
activity characterized by qiuck and frequent exchanges of
attack and defensive actions. Both the players and the
referees make the integral part of the basketball game, and
in the final result of a basketball match their role is of great
importance, sometimes even decisive. The purpose of this
research is to identify the anthropological profile of the
best Croatian basketball referees. The examinees sample
group consisted of 31 referees of the A referees list in
competition season 2008/2009. The referees list has been
determined by the Croatian Basketball Referees
Association and every year it is formed according to the
referee results obtained in the previous competition year.
The average age of the referees was 33,35+-5,17 years and
their referee experience was 7,29+-5,06 years. The
variable sample was made of morphological
characteristics and tests used for evaluation of motoric
and functional abilities. Data processing was performed
by using the programme package STATISTICA for
Windows, ver.8. The basic descriptive statistitical
parameters have been calculated for each variable.
The obtained values of the body fat percent indicate
that the referees of this examinees sample group have the
optimal body structure.
The results obtained in motoric tests for evaluation of
agility and explosive strenght of the sprint type indicate
that the motoric space of the basketball referees is well
developed in respect of the basketball game dynamics and
mechanics of refereeing with three referees. Since the
basketball referees have obtained good results in the tests
for evaluation of the mentioned motoric abilities, which
are quite close to the average values of the top-grade
basketball players but within the range of the results of the
professional army of the Republic of Croatia, it can be
concluded that the obtained values can also be used as
model parameters in further control of motoric space to
achieve better coditioning and motoric preparations of
referees.
The referees have a well developed aerobic capacity.
The average values of the absolute and relative maximal
receiving of oxygen, values of heart frequency and
receiving of oxygen on the anaerobic ventilation treshold
with ventilation – metabolic indicators, correspond to the
values characterized for sport activities in which aerobic
energy processes prevail.
It is important to point out that all the referees
involved in this examinees sample group have been
physically very well prepared, that is, they have met the
high conditioning – motoric criteria of preparation
necessary for refereeing in the basketball matches of the
highest national grade.
