Abstract

The author is dealing with some psychological mechanisms that keep the human positive representation of oneself upright in spite of changing social surroundings. Such mechanisms are: false perception (misconception), selective interaction, selective esteem of others, selective self-esteem and provocation of congruent reactions by others. They are, in fact, conservative factors of a human personality and as such they are something negative (devils), but they can play a positive role as well in education as in selfeducation, because they keep self-reliance and self-esteem alive.
