Abstract

Radial basis function (RBF) networks are the new, recently developed, meshless explicit, piecewise geometry description methods. Among many useful properties the RBFs have, they belong to Reproducing Kernel Hilbert Spaces and have the best approximating property, and they therefore might be suitable for describing complex ship geometry. Moreover, they are the
solution of scattered data interpolation problem and can achieve high accuracy. Various types of radial basis functions and their parameters will be investigated and their applicability in 2D ship
geometry description studied in this paper.
