Abstract

BDI-II is a self-report instrument for measuring the severity of depression. In this study we examined construct validity of the BDI-II in a sample of highschool adolescents. BDI-II and Depression Scale D-92 were administered to 78 male and 131 female adolescents whose ages ranged from 16 to 20 years old. To ascertain the construct scores. Using principal axis factor analysis we found two dimensions of self-reported depression. First factor represented cognitive-affective and second somatic dimension. The positive relationship between the BDI-II and D-92 scores (r = 0,74; p < 0,01) supports convergent validity of the BDI-II in this sample of adolescents.
