Sažetak
This article discusses the discovery and identification of some new compositions of Ivan Zajc Sr. (1800-1854). Far less known than his son Ivan Zajc Jr. (1832-1914), who significantly impacted Croatian musical culture during the 19th century, his father Ivan Zajc Sr was also recognized as a skilful composer. The legacy of Ivan Zajc Jr. was obtained by the National and University Library in Zagreb in 1965. The legacy is very extensive and comprises several hundred books with autographs. Since the compositions of his father were not mentioned or specifically marked during the handover, additional efforts were needed to identify and attribute the work to Zajc Sr. The documentation has shown the existence of several volumes of pieces composed by Zajc Sr. The found pieces do not differ from the types of compositions that Zajc father usually wrote – they are shorter compositions such as gallops, minuets, landlers and so on. The work of identifying the compositions of Zajc Sr. in the NUL resulted in a list of 42 works whose purpose is to complement the already existing knowledge of the compositional activities of Ivan Zajc Sr.
