The effect of essential oils on the mycelium growth of Fusarium culmorum

Sažetak

An in vitro study of the antifungal effect of six essential oils (lemon, sweet orange, mountain pine, rosemary, thyme and star anise) on the polyphagous phytopathogenic fungus Fusarium culmorum was carried out. Essential oils were applied in quantities so that the volume fraction of oil in the air was 0.02, 0.06 and 0.1 %. The research results showed that the biological activity of essential oils depended on the type and amount of oil applied. Thyme essential oil completely inhibited the growth of the fungus at all applied amounts and regardless of the length of incubation. Anise oil also had a significant antifungal effect. Sweet orange oil had the weakest antifungal effect in all treatments.
