Sažetak
Vocal professionals are people who use their voice and speech as the basic tool for work. The presence of voice disorders endangers their professional, emotional and social life, i.e. they reduce the quality of
life and reduce professional success. Students studying to become vocal professionals are a particularly interesting group considering the occurrence of negative vocal behaviors during their studies, which can
affect their effectiveness even at the very beginning of their professional career. Speech and language pathologists are vocal professionals of the second category, i.e. they deal with preventive and curative activities aimed at eliminating voice disorders. In this context, it is understandable to assume that they should pay special attention to their voice and activities that reduce the risk of the occurrence of disorders. The aim of this paper was to investigate, analyze and interpret the occurrences of voice abuse in speech and language pathology students, i.e. improper and ineffective use of voice, which over time can lead to significant difficulties that can result in limitations in professional work. Students were examined with a questionnaire that was specially created for the purposes of this research. The sample of respondents consisted of undergraduate and graduate students of speech and language pathology. The results of the research showed that students, regardless of the current year of study, often misuse their voice and do not apply vocal hygiene techniques, despite the education they have during formal education. This research emphasizes the importance of additional vocal education of future vocal professionals.
