Sažetak

The purpose of this work is to theologically actualize the
existential meaning of the event of the cross. The text offers
some of the baselines of every speech about the cross pretending
to rise to the range of today’s theological developments and
insights.
In the introductory part the author refers to the pluralism
of pictures, approaches, models in theology of the cross
throughout Christian history. Then he analyzes the traditional
understanding of the event of the cross as an “atoning sacrifice”
advocating for a spiritual-existential understanding of sacrifice.
Also, he relates the category of redemption to global salvation
and liberation. In the final part of the work the author sees
the event of the cross as a culmination of the creative-salvific
God’s history and places it in relation to the doctrine of original
sin. The event of the cross is understood as the culmination of
radicalization of the process of revelation of God’s unconditional
love directed to the liberation of human freedom.
