Instructions for Authors

Obnovljeni Život is the scholarly journal of the Faculty of Philosophy of the Society of Jesus in Zagreb. It is published quarterly, and it publishes categorised scholarly research in the fields of philosophy and religious studies. In addition to this, it also publishes short, non-categorised papers, such as reviews and critiques. It is a Croatian A1 publication, meaning that papers published in it are taken into account during evaluations for the awarding of scientific titles in the humanities and social sciences.

Obnovljeni Život publishes unpublished original works that are not currently undergoing the review process for any other publication. Scholarly articles are categorised through a peer review review process. The editor may reject an article without external review if it is apparent that it does not fulfil the content, quality, or technical requirements of the journal. Obnovljeni život publishes papers in the Croatian standard language, and provides proofreading services for articles accepted for publishing. The editorship may also ask the author to alter the text to suit the neutral linguistic norms of academic and scientific style.

After the review process, papers accepted for publishing may have one of the following scholarly ratings according to the valid Regulations on Prerequisites for Appointments to Scientific Positions (Croatian Official Gazette NN 84/05)

An original scholarly paper contains the results of original scholarly research. The data obtained from the research is presented such that it may be verified, and the processes undertaken during the research are described such that they may be repeated.

A preliminary communication is a scholarly work containing one or more new pieces of scientific data, which do not significantly change existing scientific knowledge.

A review article is a scholarly work that provides an overview and analysis of published scientific information from a specific area. As the author of this type of paper bases his or her research on an analysis of research that has already been published, the paper must visibly display the author’s contribution to the subject through his or her critical analysis.

A professional paper contains information that is already known or has already been published, and focuses on their application or promulgation for educational purposes.

Papers are to be submitted in *.doc, *.docx, or *.rtf format in Times New Roman font. The allowed font styles are Normal (Regular), Italic, and footnotes in number format are allowed at the end of the text. Authors are required to ensure that the submitted digital versions of their texts have no other visible or hidden formatting. The use of the Keep Text Only option is thus strongly recommended when copying text from other sources. If special styles are required (tables, passages, dedications, etc), a page layout draft must be delivered to the editorship in *.pdf format.

Articles submitted for the review procedure must have the following requirements: (a) Articles must be from 16-20 pages in length (one page is considered to be 1,800 characters with spaces – therefore, articles must be from 28,000-36,000 characters in length, including spaces); (b) the paper must contain all of the following – title, author, introductory summary, key words, body text and bibliography in Croatian, and title, author, summary, and key words in English.

Obnovljeni Život requires the use of Harvard-style in-text citations and reference lists as per American Psychological Association (APA) style.

Legal framework

The journal does not charge authors for the review procedure, nor does it charge for publishing expenses or other expenses involved in ensuring articles are available on the internet. Authors receive no remuneration for published articles, and article authors receive one free copy of the issue of the journal in which their work was published. Obnovljeni Život is an open access journal, and published works may be used according to license CC BY-NC 4.0 (Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International license), which is available at https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0/. By submitting an article to Obnovljeni Život, authors confirm that they are familiar with and accept the publishing conditions described and the usage policies for published works outlined in the CC BY-NC 4.0 license.
