Abstract

The author is of the opinion that a certain political culture is required in order for citizens to be able to participate in a responsible way in public political life. This conviction is expounded in view of the upcoming parliamentary elections in the Republic of Croatia. The foundation of political culture is the promotion of each individual's dignity, while values – truth, honesty and solidarity – are its substance. In light of this, the author looks into the promises made during the previous general elections in 2007, both fulfilled and unfulfilled, which have resulted in the present multifaceted social and political situation, and he emphasizes challenges awaiting the candidates and the electoral roll of 2011.
