Abstract

The purpose of this essay is to provide an analysis of Pascal Bruckner's philosophy through the prism of contemporary individualism – an individualism which is a deviation of freedom and which divides into the two parallel and identical behaviour trends of victimization and infantilism. These constitute a diagnosis of the crisis in which contemporary individual finds himself today. Organically connected to this phenomenon, Brucker analyzes in his works and also satirizes democracy, capitalism, consumerism, the entertainment industry and globalization but also their repercussions on everyday life, particularly in love relationships. The goal is to point out the tragicomical predicament of the individual and thus to offer guidelines for a possible solution. Without specifying as to the action to be taken, he appeals to each individual to strive for maturity, since curbing development generates modern anomalies.
