Sažetak
Thinking of main characteristics of today’s society we can notice a large-scale drop in seeing the basic human values, the crisis of morale and upbringing. The sensibility for moral and ethical values, solidarity, tolerance, empathy, successful communication, emotional sensibility towards others, altruism, consideration for other people’s integrity are values that are systematically losing the battle against the system of profit and power. Greed, selfishness, not caring about others, disrespecting human dignity, summing up a human being to a biological and technical product, a working tool..., are the sources of the moral crisis that is seizing both our society and the whole world. Even the children are geared towards the development whose goal is to reach perfection in the field of materialization, and the individualism is becoming a philosophy of living. The whole society needs to work on creating new humane value that implies teaching values such as integrity, honesty, selflessness and love towards humans and nature.
In this paper the necessity of the systematic implementation of upbringing and education for values is considered. Pedagogy as a science and school as an institution need to take over responsibility in the continuous and designed development of value system for confronting children and young people with challenges of the modern society. Upbringing and education for values are upbringing and education for life.
