Sažetak

Corn and wheat are the most important cereal crops in Croatia. They participate with the highest percentage in diet of humans and domestic animals. Corn and wheat are subject to attack by toxigenic fungi of genera Fusarium, Penicillium and Aspergillus. Fusarium species found on wheat grain in Croatia are listed. Incidence of Fusarium species on corn and wheat is specified, as well as important mycotoxins they produce. Symptoms of frequent Fusarium species on corn and wheat in the field are briefly described. Penillicium species that are found in corn grain in different types of storage facilities in Croatia are listed. Symptoms in the grain are described and more important toxigenic species of Penicillium mycotoxins are stated. Symptoms caused by Aspergillus flavus on corn in field are presented. Recommendations for preventative measures for implementation in the field in order to minimize the presence of toxigenic fungi on corn and wheat are given.
