Abstract

The text, by means of an analysis of diverse definitions of the myth and symbolic politics in contemporary political theories, ranging from Marx’s, Cassirer’s, Friedrich’s, to Edelman’s theory, outlines the role of the political myth in the formation of the contemporary political community. By presenting the main features of the communitarian theory, the paper points to the function of the political myth in shaping the meaning, as well as in the integration and legitimatization of the contemporary democratic polity.
