Sažetak

Security as a condition for existence and activity of the individual, state and international community is one of the basic functions of the society. This is confirmed by continuous effort in order to reach security through entire human history, from the time when people lived in primitive communities, to the present-day at the beginning of the 21st century. Multidimensional and combined concept of security didn't have the same meaning during this whole period, so its different understandings are built into different theories.
Defining the security and its content is different in traditional concepts than in today's contemporary, which are conditioned by totally different context.
In this article the author presents a review of the theoretical approaches to security (individual, national, international) using a different interpretation of the security and the ways it can be achieved most effectively (realism, liberalism, marxism).
