Abstract

At the beginning of the Homeland War, the parish church of St. Michael in Lovinac was destroyed by shelling, during which its bells were also damaged. Although impaired, the bells—through their inscriptions—reveal the period in which they were made and represent significant movable cultural assets. They should be properly protected and presented, not only due to their importance for the community in the context of cultural memory, but also for their cultural and historical value. This prompted an expansion of the research deeper into the past—
to the bells that preceded them and were destroyed during the Great War (World War I), and further to other church bells in the Lovinac area.
